Rediscovering My Roots: A Journey Through Korea
Korea is a country where tradition and progress walk hand in hand. Its rich history, incredible food, and warm hospitality make every visit special.
Korea, my homeland and the place where I have spent the most time after the United States, holds a special place in my heart. With its rich history, dynamic culture, and unparalleled culinary scene, every visit is a chance to rediscover its beauty. Unlike many travelers, I have had the privilege of experiencing Korea beyond the surface, delving deep into its cities, traditions, and landscapes.
Seoul, a metropolis nearing ten million people, is where modernity and tradition seamlessly coexist. As a global city, it boasts towering skyscrapers, ancient palaces, and a vibrant nightlife. Having many friends spread across its districts, I have been able to explore the city in ways that most tourists might not. From wandering through the historic Bukchon Hanok Village to witnessing the grandeur of Gyeongbokgung Palace, every corner of Seoul tells a story.
Beyond its historical landmarks, Seoul is a paradise for food lovers. Korean cuisine has taken the world by storm with K-food, and there is no better place to experience it than in its birthplace. Whether indulging in authentic Korean barbecue, savoring a warm bowl of kimchi jjigae, or sampling street food at Gwangjang Market, the flavors are unparalleled.
One of my greatest passions is golf, and Korea offers some of the finest courses in Asia. The country’s golf culture is thriving, with beautifully maintained fairways and stunning backdrops. Exploring the numerous golf courses, from those nestled in the mountains to coastal greens, has been a dream come true. Staying in nearby pensions and visiting local restaurants after a day on the course has only deepened my appreciation for Korea’s hospitality and gastronomy.
