G-CEO NY 14 — Alumni Community Site

An alumni site where a New York business-school cohort follows news, events and the member directory in one place — and organizers post updates themselves.

Challenge

The page-builder WordPress site made every post a chore, the contact details of all 32 members were public without sign-in, and events were a raw embedded Google Calendar.

What I built

I first built the site on WordPress in 2025, then rebuilt it in 2026 as a custom PHP site with no WordPress. Posts, pages and photos were migrated and every old address redirects to its new one. It adds member sign-in by 6-digit email code, a two-level directory, first-login consent and photo take-down requests, an admin writing screen, an event calendar that reads Google Calendar, a Korean/English switch and first-party analytics.

Outcome

Organizers now run the site from their phone's Google Calendar and the admin screen, and member contact details are visible to signed-in members only.

My role

I planned, designed, built and run the site myself — from the first WordPress version to the PHP rebuild.

Highlights

  • Member sign-in: 6-digit email code or magic link, first-login consent
  • Two-level directory — names and companies only until sign-in
  • Photo take-down requests: hidden at once, then reviewed
  • Admin writing screen with automatic photo resizing and WebP
  • Own event calendar fed by Google Calendar, plus a subscribe link
  • Korean/English switch, first-party analytics and weekly report
